1st Wraysbury
We are a very friendly and committed Scout Group based in Wraysbury Village in Berkshire.
Our HQ, which was opened by Prince Phillip in 2008, is located on the Green in Wraysbury. Post Code TW19 5NA. We also have a swim/kayaking/BBQ area located on the other side of the road to the scout hut, next to the Village Club Car Park.
We’re always keen to have new members come along and the emphasis is on having fun while the young people learn life skills that will help them become a valuable member of society.
We have a varied and lively list of activities and most of the children that join us in Beavers stay on until they are in Scouts.
All our activities are reliant on parents to help and get involved.
The Wraysbury Scout Group is split into 4 Sections
Beavers is for boys and girls aged 6 to 8 years.
1st Wraysbury Beavers meet at the scout hut every Monday during term time between 5:30 and 6:30pm.
Beavers gives children the opportunity to make new friends and have new adventures. Completing award challenges earns them badges and challenges them to do more, learn more and be more.
Activities have recently included a Space themed sleepover in the Scout Hut with a Planetarium, a talk by our local police officer and a visit by a bunny for Chinese New Year. The summer term will include kayaking and paddle boarding and lots of other fun and games.
Please Email the Beaver Leader Pam Morris [email protected] if you want to know more.
Cubs are for 8 to 101/2 year old boys and girls.
1st Wraysbury Cubs meet at the scout hut every Monday during term time between 6:45 and 8:15pm.
Cub Scouts enjoy new adventures while making new friends along the way. Their commitment is recognised by over thirty activity badges. As well as regular weekly meetings, Cub Scouts also enjoy activity days and weekend camps.
Wraysbury cubs have recently been developing some basic scouting skills; making fires, learning knots and building shelters. They also learnt about the Chinese New Year, made pancakes, visited Jump Giants and had a Cardboard Camp sleepover in the scout hut. The summer term will include kayaking and paddle boarding, a District BBQ and lots of other fun, games and opportunities to earn more badges.
Please Email the Cub Leader Charlotte Ainsworth [email protected] if you want to know more.
Scouts is for 101/2 to 14 year old boys and girls
1st Wraysbury Scouts meet at the scout hut every Tuesday during term time between 7:00 and 8:30pm.
Scouts are introduced to lots of new challenges, adventures, activities, people and things. Scouts start small but think big, always challenging themselves to do more and be more. Girls and boys are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and each other, with older members leading a small team.
Earlier in the year Wraysbury Scouts braved the cold with a freeze out camp. They had a great time cooking on fires, making go karts and exploring. On Tuesdays they have learnt new skills including orienteering, first aid and cooking. They also had a visit to Windsor leisure pool and completed a food collection around the village in aid of a local food bank.
During the summer term they will be going on a weekend bike camp, a Coasteering camp and doing lots of kayaking, and paddle boarding.
Please contact the Scout Leader Laura Sutton [email protected] if you have any questions.
Explorers
Explorers is for 14 to 18 years old girls and boys
Explorers are given the opportunity to; Try More, See More and Do More. Explorers get the chance to dream big, find their place in the world and make memories to last a life time.
Wraysbury Explorers are not meeting at present, but will be coming back in the Autumn. Lots of activities and adventurers are planned including camping, kayaking and possibly a ski trip. There is also the opportunity to go on trips with Berkshire scouts. Last year they went to the French Alps and next year they are planning a trip to Africa.
Please contact future Explorer Laura Sutton [email protected] if you want to join or know more.
Squirrels is a new Scouting Section open to 4 to 6 years.
Wraysbury does not currently have a Squirrels section. If you are interested in starting a Squirrels section please let us know,
Families
Wraysbury Scouts had a Family Camp at the start of May. It was a great success, the sun shone and everyone had a great time.
Parents are encouraged to join in as much as possible, by helping at an evening, an activity or fund raising event. Nothing is too taxing and we are sure you will make new friends and have a great time. You may even want to join our leader or executive teams.
Fundraising Activities
Scouting is a charity, and great scouting requires funds – to run camps, purchase equipment and run activities. Please help us raise money so that we can continue to offer a high quality Scouting experience.
Each year our primary fundraising activities are:
- The Wraysbury Village Fair – The Scouts run a barbeque and hog roast and the Cubs/Beavers/Scouts run their own stalls
- Bonfire Night -we build a fire, barbeque and set off fireworks on the Friday night closest to November 5th
Please let us know if you can help out or have any new ideas!
